Every runner who enters The Spectacle has the option to fundraise for a local charity, giving you the opportunity to support a cause that matters to you while taking on your chosen event.
The Spectacle is a celebration of Nelson Tasman, and we wanted to create a way for the wider community to be part of the event beyond race day. Whether you’re running, supporting a runner or cheering from the sidelines, there are plenty of ways to get involved.

261 Fearless
261 Fearless is a global women’s running organisation founded by running pioneer Kathrine Switzer, who in 1967 became the first woman to officially register and run the Boston Marathon. She was given bib number 261, which became a symbol of her determination to challenge barriers for women in running. Today, 261 Fearless carries that legacy forward, using running to empower women, build confidence and create supportive communities around the world.

Ranui House
The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust provides a home away from home for patients and their whānau who travel to Christchurch for lifesaving medical treatment. Through Rānui House and Rānui Apartments, the Trust provides comfortable accommodation close to Christchurch Hospital, helping families stay together during what can be an incredibly difficult time. The Trust also supports life-saving cancer research.

Speed Freaks
Speed Freaks uses running, walking and community connection to support people recovering from addiction and mental distress. Its kaupapa is centred around improving health and wellbeing, building connection and creating an inclusive community where people can move, participate and support one another.

Halberg
The Halberg Foundation works to ensure young people with physical disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in sport and recreation. Through programmes including the Halberg Club, Activity Fund and Halberg Games, the Foundation helps remove barriers to participation and supports young people and their whānau to find joy, confidence and connection through sport.

Nelson Tasman Hospice
Nelson Tasman Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, supporting patients, their whānau and carers throughout illness, death and bereavement.

Rise
RISE is a Nelson-based charitable organisation working with individuals and whānau across the Top of the South to prevent family violence and build safer, more resilient communities. RISE supports the whole whānau, including people who use violence, with services designed to encourage positive change and break the cycle of family harm.

The NZ Transplant Games Association supports people who have received organ and tissue transplants to get active, connect with others and celebrate the gift of transplantation. The NZ Transplant Games provide an opportunity for transplant recipients of all ages to participate in sport, improve their health and wellbeing, and raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters NZ creates mentoring relationships between young people and trained adult volunteers, helping young people build confidence, develop positive relationships and reach their potential.

The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary
The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary is a 690-hectare predator-free wildlife sanctuary in Nelson, protecting native forest and providing a safe home for some of Aotearoa’s most endangered species. With kiwi, tuatara, kākāriki karaka and many other native species now calling the Sanctuary home, its work is focused on restoring and protecting Nelson’s unique natural environment for generations to come.

The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter provides a vital 24/7 emergency service across the Top of the South, responding to more than 400 missions each year. The service provides critical care and rapid transport for people in remote and hard-to-reach locations, where getting help quickly can make all the difference.
